Infrared Photography involves the use of a filter to block visible light while allowing infrared light to pass through. The electromagnetic spectrum in decreasing energry from 400 nanometers to 800 nanometers includes ultraviolet light, visible light, and infrared light. I have converted my Nikon D5100 camera to a 720 nm infrared camera courtesy of life pixel. Visible light below 720 nanometers is cut out while infrared light is allowed to pass. This blocks almost all colors except for some reds, and allows infrared light. In infrared light, leaves appear white, water appears black, clouds appear white and the sky appears black. False color can be applied by swapping the blue and red channels in photoshop.
